Workability
What is workability?
One day Ruth, the Moabite foreigner, said to Naomi, “I’m going to work; I’m going out to glean among the sheaves, following after some harvester who will treat me kindly.” Naomi said, “Go ahead, dear daughter.” (Ruth 2:2)
When we are faced with tough situations, yet we try to make do with what is available in the same way Ruth did, we are allowing for “workability”. Workability is about doing whatever you can today, given what is available to you, and making the most out of the situation. Some people who experience failure allow their mindset to become negativistic. They end up making one bad decision after another because of this. As a result, they spiral down to a state of “unworkability”, such that they feel as though nothing can be done.
Ruth could have very well ended up in a state of unworkability. However, she decided that no matter how grave their situation was at the time, there was always something that could be done. Ruth got right to it. She chose to work with what little she had, and was eventually rewarded for it, as you will see later on. Rewards are also what await those of us who choose workability over unworkability. We must do whatever we can at the present moment, despite feeling as though the odds are against us.
