Goodness and Grace of God
God could have just wiped out the earth and created a new one with new people in it. He had done it before. Remember the story of the great flood where the only survivors were Noah, his family and the pairs of animals that God instructed him to save? The reason why God did that was because man had fallen into sin so deeply that they breathed evilness. The bible said: “The Lord saw how bad the people on earth were and that everything they thought and planned was evil.” So God decided to wipe out the earth and start anew with Noah and his family. But after the flood, God said, “I will never again curse the ground because of the human race, even though everything they think or imagine is bent toward evil from childhood. I will never again destroy all living things.”
Notice the goodness and grace of God. Even though man had turned evil, He still made a promise not to punish the earth again. So now it can be more understood why God did not do what He did during Noah’s time. He had a promise and the bigger truth was along with God’s promise, there’s His great love for all mankind. Paul emphasized how God loved His people that He “showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”
