Becoming Clean Again

How hard is it to remove stains? To those who have experience with being clumsy, knocking over stuff that gets on your clothes, and you try to get it out but you can’t — you know how hard it is to get rid of these stains. You need a really good detergent or bleach and you just hope for the best as you start scrubbing. The same can be said about repentance.

There is not a day that we do not sin. Some days better than others, but all in all, the effect of sin is that it creates a stain on our spirit. Our spirits were made pure and clean. Imagine it as a white robe of excellent quality. This spiritual robe was what we wore when we started in this mortal journey. When we sin, we are staining this robe.

We live in this world trying to prepare for the party God has prepared for His children. This party is one where if you are not dressed for the occasion, you may not enter or you will be cast out. God requires us to keep our robes white. How can we keep it clean from this stain-filled world?

We can’t do it alone. We need the help of a good strong detergent and powerful scrubbing. That is where the gospel of Christ comes in. No matter what sad stains we have in our past, through His atonement, we can be clean again.“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” Isaiah 1:18

God has given us His promise and all we must do is to draw nearer unto Him and He will do the same towards us. His love knows no bounds.
