Prohibitions of the 10 Commandments
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)
The 10 commandments, also termed as the Decalogue, are a set of rules which the Bible describes as having been given to the Israelites by God at Mount Sinai, through the prophet Moses. The 10 commandments include instructions to worship God alone, to honour parents, and to keep the Sabbath day Holy. It also includes prohibitions against idolatry, blasphemy, murder, adultery, theft, dishonesty, and coveting.
The prohibitions of the 10 commandments can be divided into 3 types of offenses towards one’s neighbour. Mainly, there are offenses towards a neighbour’s person, name, or world. When the sixth commandment is violated, you offend your neighbour in his person, the ninth commandment in his name, and the seventh and eighth commandments, in his world.
