“Trust” is not a simple concept as most of us think it is. The experience of trusting another person or an object is usually taken for granted. We limit it to a feeling. We think trust is something that simply occurs. Instead, trust must be seen as a mood that we set for our lives. It’s a choice we make based on our assessment about the object of the trust.

When trust is betrayed, it cannot be restored to its full integrity. According to a famous writer, “naïve trust is not authentic trust. Authentic trust requires wisdom, not naïveté”. Trust in the Lord is not about blind obedience. It is because we grow in the wisdom of the Lord that we get to trust Him more and more.

The word “steadfast” means secure, firm, or loyal. The mood of a steadfast trust is grounded on an assessment of security or loyalty. If you do not think the object of your trust is firm or loyal, you would not have steadfast trust for this person or thing.
