Compensating for Wrong Doings
God spoke to Moses: “Command the People of Israel to ban from the camp anyone who has an infectious skin disease, anyone who has a discharge, and anyone who is ritually unclean from contact with a dead body. Ban male and female alike; send them outside the camp so that they won’t defile their camp, the place I live among them.” (Numbers 5:1-3)
The fourth book of Numbers continues to talk about the different clans, and the duties assigned to each of them. In the fifth book of Numbers, God told Moses how the people were to compensate for their wrong doings. In Numbers 5:5-7, it is written:
“The Lord said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites: ‘Any man or woman who wrongs another in any way and so is unfaithful to the Lord is guilty and must confess the sin they have committed.”
The passage above states that a wrong done unto another person is a sin, thus, a violation of God’s law. Because of this, the sinner is guilty and must confess. God teaches us in the passage the importance of admitting to a fault, and the confession of this fault as an act of repentance and humility.
