God said to observe the Sabbath on a weekly basis. This was so man can do the work for the week and get refreshment from Him on the weekend so he can come prepared for the next week of work. The bible said: “On the first day of each month and on each Sabbath, everyone will worship me. I, the Lord, have spoken.”

Sabbath, aside from being the time for refreshment, is also the time for consecration. This is the time when God sanctify His people from the sins that they’ve done. So does this mean that Sabbath is a leeway to sin? No, not at all!

The reason why sanctification happens during Sabbath is so that man can be cleansed from the evilness of the world and may completely lose the appetite to sin. Just think of taking a bath as your habit. The more you bathe yourself, the cleaner you get. You develop very good hygiene. Then you become disgusted at the thought of the slightest germ to touch your body. The same goes with Sabbath. As you observe it, you get more and more closer to God. You become more like Him and you eventually throw off all the worldly desires you have because what you have now are the desires of God.
